Our own Julie Taylor, from Pathways UMC, is featured in the latest newsletter from the General Board of Global Ministries!  Click here to read the article.

Julie Taylor serves as the community faith nurse (sometimes called parish nurse) at Pathways United Methodist Church, in Springfield, Missouri .  MissionCast had an opportunity to sit down with Julie and learn a little about what she does and what Congregational Health Ministries are all about.  This is the first of a two-part MissionCast to introduce you to Julie and this growing ministry in the Missouri Conference and the United Methodist Church at large. To view this MissionCast go to  http://momissioncast.com:80/

Trunk or Treat  October 27, 2007

The Family Life Committee sponsored another Trunk or Treat this year on the church parking lot.  About 20 decorated car and truck trunks were opened for the neighborhood children to have a safe alternative celebration of Halloween.  The police department and the ambulance service and the fire department all had their vehicles here for the kids and adults to inspect.  The Committee served free hot dogs, chips, and pop for everyone.  The weather cooperated and it was a fun evening.  One of the  highlights was when the fire department took the preacher and the church secretary up in the bucket of their hook and ladder truck which rose some 70 feet up into the air.

Apple Butter Makin'   October 15-17, 2007

We were concerned for a while that we wouldn’t be able to find apples this year (because of the freeze in April) or that we would have to pay an exorbitant  price.  However, after numerous phone call to various orchards, we ended up only having to pay $14 a bushel which was only about $5.00 more a bushel than last year.  We made 407 pints and 233 quarts!  All that Apple Butter will be for sale at our Church Bazaar on Saturday, November 3, from 8AM to 2PM.

The apples are peeled, then cut up, run through a processor, and then slow-cooked (while constantly stirring) in giant copper kettles over a gas fire. The only other ingredients are sugar and cinnamon.

This is the 37th year for making apple butter at our church.
